Q:I really want to read/support Wayward, but I can't afford physical copies since I'm not in America. Will buying digital copies still contribute to sales/popularity?
Digital copies bought through comiXology are about on par to the profitability of physical copies and DRM-free digital copies bought directly through Image’s comic shop give even more to creators:
Buy digital guilt-free.
This times infinity.
Whether it’s because you want to save space, increase the number of books you can buy each month, or you live in areas where it just isn’t possible/cost effective to buy physical copies, buying digital through whatever legit venues you prefer (many publishers offer them directly, like Image and Top Shelf, which as Jim points out, puts more money into creators pockets than physical copies or comiXology) is most definitely encouraged and greatly appreciated.
It makes a difference in how long a book can survive - even those $0.99 or $1.99 purchases. They add up in a hurry.
Greetings & Salutations, my friends!
Long time since I’ve had real news to share, huh?
Well, I wanted to wait until I had something significant to tell you,…

You’ve Never Heard of Me
Hello, Comic Readers. My name’s Nick Tapalansky (nicktapalansky here on the Tumblr). I’ve been writing comics professionally for about seven years now. I’m here to talk about the ancient and arcane art of making “indie comics,” which I think just means “anything that you make up that isn’t owned by somebody else” these days.
You’ve never heard of me. That’s okay. In fact, that’s the point of our first installment. And just why is that, precisely?
Because nobody’s heard of you, either. And that isn’t going to stop you from making your own awesome comics. Read More →
Friends! My first article for the official comics Tumblr has gone live.
WARNING: Contains truth about making comics and a picture of dudenukem with hair.
NYC natives! Next Wednesday, I’ll be descending on your finest Barnes & Noble along with Alex Eckman-Lawn (dudenukem), Kate Glasheen (katiecrimespree), Shane-Michael Vidaurri (smvidaurri), and Kate Kasenow (katekaz) to talk about the ancient and arcane art of making indie comics.
I strongly suspect we will devolve into a sea of giggling dweebs before the night is over. We may also weep as we tell you about what has brought us to this point in our careers.
BECAUSE COMICS = FEELINGS.
Come talk to us, and bring all those burning questions about making the comic sausage that you’ve had taking up space in your hearts and mind all these years.
I am lucky to have a copy of Brutus Magazine’s special Katsuhiro Otomo issue. I thought it’d be nice to share the wealth. The magazine is full of tons of awesome pictures of Otomo’s work, Otomo in the studio, and even Otomo hanging out with Takehiko Inoue. How cool is that? One really cool thing is a few pages of shelfie’s (I included his movie collection here).
The magazine also came with a short comic by Otomo called Park, which I included a few pages of.
Unfortunately, I can’t read japanese, so I need a friend to come and translate the whole thing for me. They could read it to me like a bedtime story. Otomo is a huge inspiration and I’ll add this beauty to my collection of his stuff. More rare Otomo to come later!

cpwilsoniii is pretty much the coolest.
What’s that, you say? Two Rocket Raccoons from Charles Paul Wilson III, artist on “The Stuff of Legend” for Th3rd World Studios and “Wraith” for IDW? Indeed! You also may have seen his pin-ups and variant covers for “The Manhattan Projects,” “The Avengers,” and “GI Joe,” among others,…
Happy Batman Day! And for those of you at San Diego Comic-Con… ugh. Lucky.
Some news from Marvel today:
- Daredevil is building steam for its 2015 debut. Steven S. DeKnight promises “a gritty, 1970s’ New York feel.”
- If we’re lucky, we might see who’s playing Doctor Strange this weekend at Comic-Con.
- For a limited time, you can access Marvel Universe Unlimited (that’s 15,000 issues) for the grand total of… $1.
And from DC Comics:
- DC is celebrating Batman Day with a few fun exclusives, including masks and shirts. Please be safe when celebrating and do not attempt to recreate the Caped Crusader’s origins.
- CBR posted an interview with some hints about the new season of Arrow.
Get us your tips, friends!
Q:Got any tips for artists wanting to start drawing comics?
So cool! Steve Cummings is putting together a Japanese doujinshi version of Wayward #1. I’ll have a few copies for sale at our launch party in late August.
The doujinshi will be the full first issue of raw pencil scans (including Steve’s art notes) with Japanese lettering.
More info on Wayward #1 (in English) can be found here:
This is SUCH an embarrassingly cool idea.
